Härmed introducerar jag ett nytt, återkommande bloggmoment: Best Of New York. Här låter jag New York-bor som väcker mitt intresse själva tipsa om sina favoritställen i stan.

ENGLISH: Today I’m introducing a new, recurrent category: Best of New York. Here I’m letting New Yorkers who catch my eye talk about their favorite places.

Bästa shoppingen: Jag har ingen favoritbutik men gillar att vandra runt på Lower East Side och i East Village.

Bästa maten: Jag gillar italiensk mat. Lombardi’s är ett bra pizzastället i Soho. Och så gillar jag cubanska Café Habana i Nolita och Fette Sau BBQ i Williamsburg.

Bästa drinkarna: Jag brukar inte dricka, men mina kompisar gillar Ten Bells på Lower East Side.

Bästa konsten: Jag är inne på modern konst, så Moma och galleriområdet i Chelsea.

Bästa sunkhak: The Library Bar (7 Ave. A) är en riktig sunkbar där jukeboxen spelar blandskivor från dem som jobbar där och det är 2 for 1 happy hour. Anton Newcombe från The Brian Jonestown Massacre bor precis runt hörnet, vi blev hembjudna till honom på långkok en julafton. Welcome To The Johnsons (123 Rivington St) på Lower East Side är ett annat bra ställe med nedsuttna sofford, biljardbord och billiga drinkar. Jag minns en väldigt speciell doft…

Bästa pommes: The Commodore (366 Metropolitan Ave.) i Williamsburg har de bästa pommes fritesen och supergoda drinkar. Deras frozen mojitos är fantastiska. Passa på att leka lite med flipperspel och spelautomater och spana på alla vackra människor som är sådär Brooklynhippa “vi bryr oss inte men är assnygga ändå”.

Bästa shoppingen: Jag älskar Pinky Otto (bland annat 49 Prince Street), det är min estetik fullt ut. En New York-designer med överkomliga priser och plagg som känns unika. Stella Dallas (285 N. 6th St) second hand-butik i Williamsburg gillar jag, brukar gå dit småberusad efter brunch.

Bästa parken: Brooklyns botaniska trädgård (900 Washington Avenue) är en fantastisk park med en jättefin rosenträdgård bland annat. På tisdagar och mellan 10 och 12 på lördagar är det gratis inträde. Bra att kombinera med ett besök på Brooklyn Museum (200 Eastern Parkway).

Bästa maten: Brunch – West Broadway i allämnhet, Café Felix (hörnet West Broadway och Grand, dj:s, jättegoda mojitos på kanna, dans vid 4–5-tiden) och Café Noir (32 Grand St, underbar atmosfär) i synnerhet. Sushi – Bozu (296 Grand St) i Williamsburg, underbart ställe med fin patio. Amerikanskt – Freemans (191 Chrystie St). Dela – Stanton Social (99 Stanton St) serverar tapas, mycket fisk och Japan-inspirerat. Högljutt och ungt, men fantastisk mat. Kända för sina minidonuts med olika dipsåser.

ENGLISH: Therese, 28, Window Dresser, Stockholm

Best Dive Bars: The Library Bar (7 Ave. A). The jukebox plays mixtapes from the crew and happy hour serves 2 for 1! Anton Newcombe from The Brian Jonestown Massacre lives just around the corner, he invited us back for stew one Christmas Eve. Welcome To The Johnsons (123 Rivington St) on Lower East Side is another great place with hollow couches, pool table and cheap drinks. I remember a very distinct smell…

Best french fries: The Commodore (366 Metropolitan Ave.) in Williamsburg has the best french fries and delicious drinks. Their frozen mojitos are amazing. Play around with flipper and other games and watch all the beautiful people who are really Brooklyn hip “we don’t really care, but still look smashing”.

Best shopping: I love Pinky Otto (49 Prince Street, among others), it’s my esthethique full out. A New York design team with okay prices and clothes that feel unique. I also really like Stella Dallas(285 N. 6th St) vintage shop in Williamsburg, usually I go there a bit tipsy after brunch.

New York-desigern Narciso Rodriguez hyllades för sin vårkollektion, som blickar tillbaka mot 90-talet och den minimalism han då var med och skapade (och som älskades av modeikoner som Kate Moss och Carolyn Bessette Kennedy). Nu är han Sverigeaktuell med en kollektion för Lindex (raka, snygga linjer, jag skulle gärna ta en av de assymetriska klänningarna), deras Pink Collection, där tio procent av försäljningspriset oavkortat går till Cancerfondens Rosa Bandet-kampanj. Ett superbra initiativ tycker jag! Här är hans favoritställen i New York.

ENGLISH: New York fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez got raving reviews for his return to the 90’s minimalism he once created in his s/s 2011 show. In october his design is also sold in Swedish Lindex stores, with ten percent of the income going to the Pink Ribbon Campaign of the Swedish Cancer Society and the fight against breast cancer. A beautiful way to reach out to women in two ways! These are his favorite New York spots:

Bästa frisör: Jag älskar att klippa mig på Orlo (34 Gansevoort St.). Det är fantastiskt, den bästa frisören i världen!

Bästa kubanska maten: Café Cortadito (210 E 3rd St). Det är såååå gott! Och superbilligt, ett av mina favoritställen att gå till.

Bästa plats för att hämta energi: Jag älskar Tompkins Square Park (mellan Avenues A och B, och 7th och 10th Street i East Village), det är väldigt lugnt, inspirerande och kul. För mig är det som att åka till stranden. När jag behöver hämta energi åker jag till havet och när jag inte har tid med det går jag till Tompkins Square Park. Det är väldigt inspirerande.

Best Hair Cut: I love getting my hair cut at Orlo (34 Gansevoort St.). It’s so great. It’s the best haircut in the whole world.

Best Cuban Food: Café Cortadito (210 E 3rd St). It’s soooo good! And super cheap, it’s one of my favorite places to go.

Best place to regenerate: I love Tompkins Square Park (between Avenues A and B, and 7th and 10th Street in East Village), it’s very peaceful, inspiring and fun. It’s like going to the beach for me. When I need to regenerate I go to the ocean, and when I don’t have time to go to the ocean I go to Tompkins Square Park. It’s very inspiring.

Bästa sporthäng: Vid pirerna nära Battery Park, nere vid vattnet. Det finns tre stora beachvolleybollplaner och fotbollsplaner. Där brukar jag hänga. Sedan kan man gå upp till parken och spela frisbee.

Best place to play: Down at the piers close to Battery Park, by the water. There you find three big beach volley courts and soccer courts. I like to hang out there. Then you can go up to the park to play frisbee.

Bästa club: Don Hills (511 Greenwich St.), en gammal klubb som nyligen nyöppnades (av Nur Khan och Paul Sevigny, reds.anm). De har bra konserter och roliga events. Där brukar jag och mitt gäng hänga.

Bästa picknick: På somrarna brukar vi hyra cyklar och cykla runt parken (Central Park). The Boathouse (E 72nd st, Central park lake, East Drive) brukar vara fullt, men bredvid finn ett ställe där man kan köpa pizza. Det bästa är att köpa med mat från Whole Foods och sitta på gräset.

Best pick-nick: During the summers we rent bicycles and bike around the Park (Central Park). The Boathouse (E 72nd st, Central park lake, East Drive) is usually full, but next door there’s a place where you can buy pizza. Best of all is to bring food from Whole Foods and sit on the grass.

I går träffade jag den här donnan över en kaffe, Leandra Medine, mer känd som The Man Repeller. Hon är inte bara rolig, smart och stilsnygg, hon är dessutom uppväxt i New York, så jag passade på att be om hennes favoriter just nu.

ENGLISH: Yesterday I met this lady over coffee, Leandra Medine, better known as The Man Repeller. Not only is she fun, smart and stylish to the teeth, she’s born and raised in New York City so I just had to take the opportunity to ask her about her favorite places right now.

Bästa Restaurang: Min favoritrestaurang just nu är antagligen Rubirosa (235 Mulberry St). Och Barmarché (14 Spring St). Jag älskar mexikansk mat, det är så gott! Eller, det är inte riktigt mexikanskt, det är fisktacos.

Best Restaurant: My favorite restaurant right now is probably Rubirosa (235 Mulberry St). And Barmarché (14 Spring St). I love Mexican food, it’s so good! Well it’s not really mexican, it’s just fish tacos.

Bästa drinkarna: För drinkar älskar jag Brinkley’s (406 Broome St), som också har bra mat. Och The Jane (113 Jane St). Och Standard Beer Garden (848 Washington St).

Bästa Club: När det gäller klubbar gillar jag SouthSide (1 Cleveland Place). Boom Boom Room (848 Washington St) har blivit lite sjabbigt, men det är fortfarande väldigt vackert.

Bästa hemliga plats: Jag är så allmän att jag inte ens har en gömd plats… Men det finns en fantastisk gungställning på Hudson Street, längst västerut. Jag älskar gungar, det är så kul, speciellt när det är finare ute. Den ligger precis vid Hudson och Varick, Spring och Varick, en liten babypark.

Best Hidden Spot: I’m so generic I don’t even have a hidden spot… There’s a great swingset on Hudson Street, all the way out west. I love swingsets, they’re so much fun, especially when it’s nicer outside. It’s right around Hudson and Varick, Spring and Warrick, this little baby park.

Stilige Izzy Tuason är mannen bakom den inspirerande modebloggen The Dandy Project och kallar numera New York för hemma. När vi lunchade häromveckan passade jag på att fråga om några av hans bästa tips.

Bästa shoppinggatan: Promenera på Ludlow. Min favorit är Assembly New York (170 Ludlow St). De har en blandning av mindre kända designers och omgjord vintage. Reformation (143 Ludlow St) har också bra vintage. Veda New York (132 Ludlow St) har jättebra skinnjackor, men allt är i tjejstorlek. Och om du behöver reparera glasögon ska du gå till Moscot på Orchard/Delancey.

Best shopping street: Just walk down Ludlow. My favorite is Assembly New York (170 Ludlow St). There’s a mix of lesser known designers and mostly re-worked vintage. Reformation (143 Ludlow St) also has good vintage. And Veda New York (132 Ludlow St) have really good leather jackets, but everything’s womensize. And if you need your eyewear repared, walk over to Moscot at Orchard/Delancey.

Bästa platserna för att bli inspirerad: Jag gillar Williamsburg, Bedford. Och, åh, gå till The New Museum (235 Bowery), det är inspirerande. Central Park är väldigt vackert. Men jag inspireras mest av människor, fina, intima kvällar hos vänner.

Bästa klubbarna: Jag hänger mest med downtown-mode-scenen. Det är de vanliga ställena: Kenmare (98 Kenmare St), Le Bain (The Standard, 848 Washington St), The Jane (113 Jane Street). Känner man sig lite mer grunge, Don Hills (511 Greenwich St). Kenmare har den mest välutvald publiken någonsin, dörrvakterna är bitches. The BoomBoomRoom (The Standard, 848 Washington St) ibland, men där är publiken lite äldre. Det finns rätt mycket på The Lower East Side också, till exempel Bedlam (40 Ave C) och Saint Jerome’s (155 Rivington St).

Best Clubs: I mostly hang around the downtown fashion crowd. There’s the regular scene: Kenmare (98 Kenmare St), Le Bain (The Standard, 848 Washington St), The Jane (113 Jane Street). If you’re feeling a little more grungy, go to Don Hills (511 Greenwich St). Kenmare, I think has the most wellselected crowd ever, the doormen are bitches. The BoomBoomRoom (The Standard, 848 Washington St) sometimes, but the crowd’s a little older. There’s a lot on the Lower East Side too, like Bedlam (40 Ave C) and Saint Jerome’s (155 Rivington St).

I förra veckan damp jag ner i en soffa i Chelsea och pratade bort en regnig stund med designern Whitney Port – faktiskt en himla fin och jordnära tjej! (Intervjun får ni vänta en stund på.) Nyligen gjorde hon en sammanställning av sina West Village-favoriter för sin kompis sajt Paper & String – för övrigt ett jättebra ställe att hitta NYC-tips på – och med Whitneys tillstånd och goda minne publicerar jag nu den listan här (notera svenska Acne-referensen). ENGLISH: Last week I sat down with designer Whitney Port in a studio in Chelsea – such a sweet and down-to-earth girl! (You’ll have to wait for the interview. If you understand Swedish…) Recently she listed her West Village favorites for her friend’s website Paper & String, a great place to find NYC happenings, and with Whitney’s permission and unanimous consent I now post it here (please note the Swedish Acne reference!). Best coffee: Joe the Art of Coffee (141 Waverly Pl. between 6th Ave and Gay St.) “This is where I get my Joe when I’m on the go — which is always when I’m in NYC! My usual drink of choice is a Soy Cappuccino, but the last time I was here, I dared (just a bit!) and tried Soy English Breakfast Latte. The verdict? Just as delicious, and the best way to kick-start your day.”

Best Smoothie: One Lucky Duck (75 9th Ave, between 15th and 16th Sts.) “The Banana Nut smoothie at this all-vegan stall in the Chelsea Market is something I dream about the minute I get on the plane in Los Angeles. Made with banana, cashew milk, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon, it’s the perfect mid-day snack, and a healthy one, to boot.”

Best Shopping: Castor and Pollux (238 W. 10th St, between Hudson and Bleecker Sts.) “This fashion-forward boutique is perfect for my Cali-hattan aesthetic. From chunky Acne sweaters to kitschy Bing Bang necklaces, this store is home to some of my favorite brands. One of the coolest things I’ve seen recently? These stackable “Maggie” bracelets, designed by Portland-based designer Kim Dunham. Each is inscribed with “tu es pulchra.” Translation: “You are beautiful,” in Latin. Guys: Any girl will drool over these, I promise.”

Best fresh fish: Extra Virgin (259 W. 4th St, between Perry and Charles Sts.) “Spring has arrived, so fellow New Yorkers, I ask you: What’s better than dining al fresco? That’s right, nothing. Feel the warm breeze as you enjoy the buffala mozzarella and grape tomato salad. Laced with roasted peppers and arugala, too, it’s a divine way to start the meal. But I really come here for the fresh fish. The “Halibut Simply Grilled,” with herbs, tomato carpaccio, and a side of arugala is genius.”

Best dancing: The Jane Hotel (113 Jane St.) “Imagine the best dance party ever (think: Jackson Five, Cee Lo Green, and everything in between) in the comfort of your very large, cozy and very mismatched living room. Add eye popping people watching and yummy cocktails and you have yourself a Saturday night at the Jane Hotel, one of my favorite weekend haunts.”
